USC Trojans’ four-star quarterback commit, Jonas Williams, has emerged as a standout prospect in the current recruiting cycle. He is not only a key addition to the Trojans’ roster but also holds the title of the top quarterback recruit in the Big Ten. According to 247Sports, Williams is ranked as the No. 9 quarterback and No. 118 player nationally. His commitment to USC has generated significant excitement among fans and analysts alike.

Top Quarterback Prospect in the Big Ten

Williams leads the pack of Big Ten quarterback recruits. He is the only quarterback among the top ten prospects in the nation according to 247Sports. Following him are Iowa’s four-star commit Tradon Bessinger, ranked as the No. 12 quarterback and No. 185 player overall, and Oregon’s four-star recruit Bryson Beaver, who is positioned as the No. 15 quarterback nationally. Bessinger recently flipped his commitment from Boise State to Iowa, while Beaver made a similar move earlier in June.

Interestingly, Williams himself was previously committed to Oregon before switching to the Trojans earlier in 2023. His transition to USC, under the guidance of head coach Lincoln Riley, positions him well for future success. Riley’s proven track record with quarterbacks adds to the anticipation surrounding Williams’ career.

Why Williams Stands Out

Williams’ exceptional talent is underscored by his record-setting performance in high school. He is the all-time leader in passing touchdowns in Illinois state history. As noted by Andrew Ivins of 247Sports, “Tracking to exit high school as a four-year starter and has a chance to set all-time passing records in Illinois… Projects as a potential multi-year starter at the Power Five level that can thrive in an up-tempo attack.” His youth also indicates that his best football is likely still ahead of him.

The expectations for Williams are high as he prepares to join the Trojans. His future role will depend significantly on the decisions of current starting quarterback Jayden Maiava. If Maiava opts to enter the 2026 NFL Draft, Williams could find himself in a favorable position as the backup quarterback. On the other hand, should Maiava remain, Williams may take a redshirt year to preserve his eligibility, positioning him as the No. 3 quarterback on the roster, behind Maiava and Husan Longstreet.

The upcoming season holds considerable promise for Williams, and fans are eager to see how his journey unfolds at USC.
