Pottstown Kicks Off Holiday Season with Exciting Events This Weekend

UPDATE: Pottstown is set to launch its festive holiday season with a series of exhilarating events starting this Saturday, December 6. The community is buzzing with excitement as residents prepare for a day filled with activities that promise to delight families and holiday enthusiasts alike.

The festivities kick off at 9 a.m. with the first run of Santa’s Polar Bear Express on the iconic Colebrookdale Railroad, connecting Boyertown and Pottstown. Additional train rides are scheduled at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 3 p.m., 5 p.m., and 7 p.m.. On board, children will have the chance to meet Santa, receive gifts, and share their Christmas wishes. Arrive early to enjoy complimentary hot cocoa and Christmas cookies in a beautifully decorated train yard!

The holiday spirit continues at 12 p.m. with Arts in the Park, a vibrant celebration at Smith Family Plaza in front of Borough Hall. This event will feature local vendors, live music, and engaging activities running until 3 p.m.. It’s a perfect opportunity to discover Pottstown’s artistic community!

At 2 p.m., Santa will make a grand entrance at Riverfront Park, arriving via dragon boat paddled by oversized elves. Following this festive arrival, he will board a fire truck for a joyful ride through downtown Pottstown.

From 3 to 6 p.m., residents are encouraged to don their most outrageous holiday attire for the inaugural Ugly Sweater Party hosted by the newly established downtown Business Improvement District. Located in the parking lot by the clock tower at the corner of High and Charlotte Streets, this free event promises live music from the Bill Ross Combo, food from local eateries, and a lively atmosphere.

The day culminates at 6 p.m. with the official lighting of Pottstown’s holiday tree at Smith Family Plaza. Families are invited to enjoy hot cocoa, treats, and carols led by local school children, making this a cherished community tradition.

Following the tree lighting, the Steel River Playhouse will present its second show of the holiday season, “It’s a Wonderful Life,” at 7 p.m.. This heartwarming performance runs through December 21, capturing the essence of the holiday spirit.

The festivities continue on Sunday, December 7, starting with the Funky Santa 5K at 9 a.m. in Riverfront Park. Runners are encouraged to dress in festive attire, with awards for best-dressed participants and spirited teams. Registration is open until race day, with a fee of $30 until November 30, and $32.50 thereafter.

Later that day, from 3 to 8 p.m., visitors can enjoy the annual Colonial Pottsgrove by Candlelight tour at Pottsgrove Manor. This enchanting event features holiday traditions of colonial America, complete with festive decorations and interactive demonstrations. Free parking is available at Pottstown Memorial Park, with shuttle service provided.

Additionally, the Pottstown FARM is hosting a holiday wreath fundraiser, where community-created wreaths will be displayed at Anno Artem Art Gallery. Voting begins on November 28 and continues through December 13.

On December 13, Santa returns for his 10th annual visit at the Carousel at Pottstown from 12 to 2 p.m., offering free photo opportunities and cookie decorating for children. This day also features the Hometown Holidays event, with over 22 downtown businesses participating in special promotions and holiday-themed activities.
