Tottenville Falls Short in PSAL 4A Title Game Against Erasmus
BREAKING: In an intense showdown, Tottenville High School’s football team fell just short of glory, losing the PSAL 4A city championship to Erasmus Hall with a final score of 34-27. The championship game took place on December 3, 2023, at Midwood High School in Brooklyn, NY, marking a dramatic finish to Tottenville’s impressive season.
Star running back Tyshawn Bent electrified the crowd right from the start, returning the opening kickoff for a touchdown. Fans hoped this would signal the beginning of a new era for the Pirates, seeking their first city title in 22 years. However, Erasmus Hall, a well-established powerhouse in high school football, quickly responded to the early deficit.
With a powerful offensive performance led by quarterback Kendu Brown, running back Ameir Morrow, and wide receiver Justus Murray, the Dutchmen dominated the field. They managed to overcome Tottenville’s early lead, showcasing their resilience and tactical prowess throughout the game.
Head coach Brian Neville‘s Tottenville squad finished the season with a remarkable record of 12-1, marking a highly successful campaign despite the heartbreaking loss. For Erasmus Hall, the victory not only avenged their earlier defeat against Tottenville but also secured their seventh city championship, inching them closer to the all-time record held by Curtis with eight titles.
As the final whistle blew, emotions ran high among players and fans alike. The Pirates fought valiantly but could not clinch the coveted title. The defeat serves as a bittersweet end to a season filled with promise and achievement.
Looking ahead, Tottenville will regroup and build on their successes as they prepare for future seasons. Meanwhile, Erasmus Hall celebrates their victory and sets their sights on continuing their legacy as one of the top programs in the league.
