On November 30, 1929, the local newspaper, the Rolette Record, was sold to Roy B. Miller and Gene Farley, both prominent figures in the nearby town of Cando. The sale, announced by a collective of farmers who owned the publication, marks a significant transition for the farmer-owned weekly that has served the Rolette community for 25 years.

E. W. Dickinson, the managing editor under the previous ownership, will depart from Rolette, although his future plans remain undisclosed. The Rolette Record was originally established in 1904 by Charles W. Sibley and has maintained a politically independent stance throughout its history. According to the new owners, this commitment to independence will continue under their leadership.

New Leadership and Future Plans

Under the new ownership structure, Gene Farley will take on the role of editor, while Roy B. Miller, who owns and edits the Cando Record, will maintain his base in Cando. Joseph Lemieux from Rolette has been appointed as Farley’s assistant in managing the paper. The first issue featuring the new editorial team is set to be published in the upcoming week.

This sale not only reflects a shift in local media ownership but also highlights the ongoing evolution of regional journalism in North Dakota. As community-focused publications navigate changing landscapes, the Rolette Record aims to continue its legacy of serving the local populace with independent reporting and relevant news coverage.

The transition of ownership is a notable event for both Rolette and Cando, reinforcing the importance of local journalism in small communities. As the new team prepares for the inaugural issue, the Rolette community anticipates continued engagement with a source of news that has been a staple for generations.
