Hugh Jackman Charms 200+ Fans at ‘Song Sung Blue’ Premiere
UPDATE: Over 200 fans welcomed Hugh Jackman and director Craig Brewer at the premiere of “Song Sung Blue” in Waukesha County on the evening of July 11, 2023. The special screening at Marcus Majestic Cinema turned into a heartfelt celebration of music and nostalgia, drawing local fans eager to see their Hollywood favorite.
The event kicked off with a lively reception featuring live performances of Neil Diamond classics by Kenosha musician Kevin Kamin, along with complimentary Kopp’s “Song Sung Blueberry” frozen custard. Kamin expressed his excitement, stating, “I’ve been playing it all my life, so I’m super excited to do this for the opening of the show.”
Attendees, many of whom shared a personal connection to the film’s story about a Milwaukee couple performing Neil Diamond tribute music, found joy in the experience. Jamie Hardt from Oconomowoc reminisced, “I saw Lightning and Thunder as a little girl at the state fair, and it was the first cassette I bought with allowance money. This is my childhood coming to life right here.”
The atmosphere was electric as fans mingled, enjoying the music and themed treats. Elizabeth Bagley and her daughter Camille Spella, who traveled from Sussex and Brookfield, echoed the sentiment, “We are enjoying the music of our lives. We grew up with the music.”
At 8 p.m., Marcus Corporation CEO Greg Marcus, Jackman, and Brewer addressed the audience, emphasizing the film’s importance to Milwaukee. “It’s awesome having him here, supporting the film. And it’s an important film. It’s about Milwaukee. It’s the kind of film people should see together with other people,” stated Marcus.
Jackman captivated the crowd with his praise for Milwaukee and its local treats. “Oh, that Kopp’s custard,” he laughed, adding, “You guys are incredible. The people of Milwaukee are incredible, and in many ways this story is a celebration of this place and the people that populate this place.”
This premiere was not just a film screening; it was a unifying event that celebrated community, music, and nostalgia, leaving an indelible mark on all who attended. Fans are already discussing their experiences on social media, eager to share this moment with friends and family.
