At the recent L’Oréal Paris Women of Worth Celebration held on December 2, 2023, in Los Angeles, actress Helen Mirren expressed her admiration for fellow actress Jane Fonda. During an exclusive interview with Us Weekly, Mirren highlighted Fonda’s “radical and controversial” outlook on life, calling her a remarkable figure.

Mirren, who is 80 years old, remarked, “One of my Women of Worth is actually another L’Oréal ambassador, and that’s Jane Fonda. I’ve always thought what an absolute remarkable life she’s had and with incredible expanse of different things.” She praised Fonda for her energy, commitment, and unwavering dedication to life, stating, “She’s definitely one of my Women of Worth.”

Celebrating Two Decades of Impact

The L’Oréal Paris Women of Worth program marked its 20th anniversary at this year’s event, recognizing ten honorees who have made significant contributions to their communities. The 2023 honorees included remarkable individuals such as Yasmine Arrington Brooks, Amy Bowers Cordalis, and Gloria Umanah, among others. This initiative has spotlighted female innovators and leaders from across the country over the past two decades.

In addition to Mirren and Fonda, other notable attendees included Andie MacDowell, Kendall Jenner, and Heidi Klum, all of whom are global ambassadors for L’Oréal Paris. The celebration took place at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, making it a star-studded affair.

Mirren’s Insights on Confidence

During her conversation with Us Weekly, Mirren candidly shared her struggles with confidence. “I don’t have confidence. I have absolutely no confidence whatsoever. But I pretend I do,” she explained. This admission reflects the vulnerability often shared by public figures, revealing that even those in the spotlight can experience self-doubt.

Looking ahead, Mirren is set to star in Kate Winslet’s directorial debut, Goodbye June, which will be released in select theaters on December 12, 2023, as well as available for streaming on Netflix starting Christmas Eve. The film follows four estranged adult children who reunite to support their terminally ill mother, played by Mirren.

Winslet, speaking at the screening, shared how the project came to fruition. “Joe had written a script on a screenwriting course that he was fortunate enough to be accepted onto,” she revealed. “At the end of the course, he said to me, ‘I’ve written this thing, and you know it’s probably rubbish, but would you read it?’ I read it, and I realized it was very much not rubbish and could definitely be a film.” This marks a significant milestone for Winslet, who has also been a strong advocate for women in the film industry.

In her 50s, Winslet recognized the importance of taking action to change the culture surrounding female representation in film. “I did have a moment of thinking, ‘Well, who am I really if I’m not actually doing that thing to try and change the culture?’ So in my 50s, I did it!”

The celebration of Jane Fonda and the achievements of the honorees at the L’Oréal Paris Women of Worth event showcases the ongoing commitment to uplifting women’s voices and recognizing their contributions to society.
