Kings’ Keegan Murray Signs Urgent $140M Extension Through 2031
BREAKING: Sacramento Kings forward Keegan Murray has just agreed to a monumental five-year, $140 million rookie contract extension, according to his representatives Mark Bartelstein and Kyle McAlarney from Priority Sports. This urgent update secures Murray’s position with the Kings through the 2030-31 season, solidifying his role as a pivotal two-way player in Sacramento.
Murray, selected as the No. 4 pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, made an immediate impact, helping the Kings break their long playoff drought during his rookie year. He was named to the All-Rookie team, showcasing his potential as a rising star. Despite facing challenges with his offensive production recently, he has emerged as a vital defensive asset for the team.
In a standout statistic, Murray is among only three players in the league to achieve at least 500 3-pointers, 150 blocks, and 150 steals across the last three seasons, alongside Anthony Edwards of Minnesota and Derrick White of Boston, as reported by ESPN Research. His defensive prowess was on display last season, where he faced off against NBA All-Stars in over 1,005 halfcourt matchups, ranking fifth in the league.
Last season, Murray averaged 12.4 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 1.4 assists while logging 34.3 minutes per game over 76 games. Remarkably, he maintained exceptional health through his first three seasons, participating in 233 out of 246 games. However, he is set to miss several weeks at the start of this season due to a torn UCL in his left thumb.
Murray’s extension marks him as the sixth player to finalize a rookie contract extension ahead of the Monday, 11:59 p.m. ET deadline, highlighting the urgency in securing star talent as the NBA gears up for the upcoming season. His performance and resilience make him a player to watch as he continues to develop in the league.
As the Kings look to build on their recent success, fans and analysts alike will be closely monitoring Murray’s recovery and performance upon his return. This extension not only secures a key player for Sacramento but also reflects the team’s commitment to its future success.
Stay tuned for more updates on Murray’s recovery and the Kings’ upcoming season as the urgency for a championship continues to grow.
