Bears Surge with 145 Yards Rushing in Crucial Week 6 Win
UPDATE: The Chicago Bears delivered a stunning performance in Week 6, rushing for a season-high 145 yards in a nail-biting victory over the Washington Commanders on October 13, 2025. With critical plays down the stretch, the Bears showcased their running game, igniting hopes for a potential breakthrough.
In a decisive moment late in the game, Coach Ben Johnson put the game in the hands of running back D’Andre Swift. After a turnover by the Commanders, Swift executed five consecutive runs on eight plays, culminating in a 38-yard field goal by kicker Jake Moody that sealed the game as time expired. Swift finished with a season-best 108 yards on just 14 carries.
This impressive outing raises the question: Is this a turning point for the Bears, or merely a fleeting moment of success?
The Bears previously struggled to reach 100 rushing yards in their last two games, prompting urgent changes. “We need to be 10% better at everything in the run game,” stated center Drew Dalman after the game. Left tackle Theo Benedet echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the importance of fundamentals and execution.
Johnson, in his first year with the Bears, is known for building powerful rushing schemes. He took pride in the performance, declaring, “I actually spend more time on the run game than I do on the passing game.” This focus paid off with five runs of ten yards or more, marking a significant improvement from previous weeks.
Looking ahead, the Bears have a favorable schedule that includes matchups against teams like the New Orleans Saints and the Baltimore Ravens, who rank poorly against the run. This could be an opportunity for the Bears to establish a strong identity moving forward.
Another crucial factor has been the offensive line. After a lineup change in Week 4, Benedet stepped in at left tackle, contributing to the running game’s resurgence. Johnson praised Benedet’s performance, noting, “I didn’t feel him out there,” indicating his seamless integration into the lineup. Benedet currently boasts an 85% run-blocking win rate, the second best among NFL tackles.
Swift’s efficiency also saw a significant uptick. His performance included a 55-yard touchdown reception, showcasing his explosive abilities. “When it’s clicking like that, it’s good,” said Swift, highlighting the teamwork involved in the victory.
As the Bears prepare for their next game, the focus will be on maintaining this momentum. “We’re always tested by new looks and new defenses,” Dalman warned, but the team is optimistic about their potential to build on this success.
Their ability to sustain this performance will be critical in the upcoming weeks. For Bears fans, this game could signal a much-needed shift in the team’s fortunes.
