Brazilian Influencer Arrested for Alleged Drug Trafficking Operation
A Brazilian influencer, known for her bikini-clad social media presence, has been arrested following allegations that she led an interstate drug trafficking and money laundering operation. Melissa Said, 23, was taken into custody in Bahia after evading police for more than a day, during which time five of her properties were raided as part of an investigation by the Bahia Civil Police. The operation, dubbed “Operation Erva Afetiva,” targeted her and her alleged criminal gang involved in the distribution of cannabis.
The police began their investigation into Said earlier this year after she was reportedly caught with drugs at an airport. She is accused of not only facilitating the smuggling of illegal substances but also of advising her followers on methods to evade law enforcement during drug transport. Furthermore, authorities claim she promoted her activities by distributing “kits” containing joints on the streets of Bahia.
Police Operation and Arrest Details
Said was finally apprehended while hiding at a friend’s house in Bahia after an intense surveillance effort. During the raids on her properties, police seized 1.4 kilograms of “skank” marijuana, 270 grams of hashish, digital scales, plastic bags, cell phones, and two vehicles suspected to be used in illegal activities. Three suspected accomplices were also arrested, including one charged with drug trafficking. The identity of the third individual remains undisclosed.
The Director of the State Department for Prevention and Suppression of Drug Trafficking, Ernandes Junior, emphasized that the operation aimed to combat drug trafficking and highlighted the influence of digital platforms in promoting criminal behavior. “It was discovered that in addition to promoting crime and drug use, she also sells and distributes narcotics in Bahia, with some people from São Paulo as one of her suppliers,” he stated.
Ongoing Investigation and Legal Consequences
The investigation into Said’s alleged criminal activities is ongoing, with authorities working to uncover the full extent of her involvement. If convicted, she could face a prison sentence of up to 25 years. Following her arrest, Said is scheduled for questioning with her lawyer and will undergo a forensic examination before her custody hearing.
In her last Instagram video, posted on October 2, 2023, Said discussed the legalization of marijuana while appearing to smoke what looked like a joint. The case has attracted considerable media attention, not only due to her social media following of over 340,000 but also because of her previous activism promoting cannabis legalization.
Said’s personal life has also drawn interest; she was previously married to influencer Tássio Bacelar, who tragically passed away in a bicycle accident last October. As the authorities continue to investigate her alleged criminal network, the implications of her arrest resonate within both law enforcement circles and the broader community.
