Vote for Jackson Metro Student of the Week: Oct. 26 – Nov. 1
The Clarion Ledger invites the community to participate in voting for the Jackson Metro Student of the Week from October 26 to November 1. This initiative recognizes the exemplary achievements of local high school students across various fields, including academics and extracurricular activities. Voting is open until noon on Thursday, October 30, with the winner to be announced online on Friday morning and in the Sunday print edition. Participants can cast a vote once per hour, per device.
Meet the Nominees
This week’s nominees showcase a range of talents and accomplishments, each exemplifying dedication and leadership in their respective schools.
Miyonna Bush is a junior at Canton High School. As an honor student, she excels both academically and athletically. Bush is a valuable member of the basketball and volleyball teams, demonstrating discipline, perseverance, and teamwork. Her commitment to both her studies and sports exemplifies her well-rounded character and ambition.
Another nominee, Pearl Clark, is a sophomore at JPS-Tougaloo Early College High School. Known for her outstanding academic performance, she maintains all A’s in her coursework. Clark has earned titles such as Miss Freshman and Miss Sophomore, reflecting her leadership and character. As the advisor for the Gardening Club, she promotes environmental awareness and community engagement. Clark is also a member of the National Honor Society and serves as Vice President of the Rhoer Club, where she embodies empathy and integrity. She aspires to attend Howard University to pursue a career in the medical field, with the goal of becoming a psychiatrist focused on mental health.
Taylor Frazier, a scholar at Forest Hill High School, is noted for her positivity and strong focus on her academic achievements. Frazier is an exceptional student who inspires those around her through her dedication to her studies.
Tyler Sessoms-Pigee is a senior at Pearl High School, holding a commendable GPA of 3.75. He is currently enrolled in Advanced Placement and dual enrollment courses. As president of the Jackson Alumni Chapter of Kappa League, he mentors younger students and leads community service projects. Besides his academic pursuits, Sessoms-Pigee is a talented musician and serves as the drumline section leader in the school band. He performs with various groups, including Pearl Indoor Percussion and the New Orleans Pelicans Drumline. In addition to his responsibilities in the National Honor Society and Student Council, he is also part of the Mayor’s Youth Council, where he is known for his dedication, humility, and kindness. After graduation, he plans to study civil engineering, aiming to make a difference through creativity and problem-solving.
As the voting period progresses, the community is encouraged to support these remarkable students and their achievements.
