UPDATE: A massive fire has erupted near Interstate 35, causing significant disruptions as emergency crews respond in the 700 block of Blackson Ave. The Austin Fire Department is on the scene, where firefighters reported that 50% of the building is engulfed in flames. The fire was first detected around 7 p.m., and plumes of smoke are visible from the highway, alarming drivers and nearby residents.

The fire has led to the closure of the 7400 block of the I-35 service road, creating traffic challenges in the area. Authorities have not yet confirmed the cause of the blaze, and investigations are underway. Eyewitnesses shared videos on social media, showcasing the dramatic scene unfolding from the highway.

This incident comes on the heels of a previous fire last month that devastated a vacant hotel and restaurant — formerly known as Aster’s Ethiopian Restaurant — located just down the road. The community is now on high alert as firefighters work diligently to contain the flames and prevent further spread.

Residents are urged to avoid the area and seek alternative routes while emergency services address the situation. Stay tuned for more updates as they become available.
