Shawn Lavin Declares Victory in Amherst Supervisor Election
UPDATE: Shawn Lavin has officially declared victory in the Amherst supervisor election, securing a decisive 52.9% of the vote as of 10:20 p.m.> today. Lavin, currently serving as deputy supervisor, has outpaced his opponent, business owner Dan Gagliardo, who ran on the Republican line.
This election was marked by intense competition and controversy, primarily surrounding the Erie County purchase of the former Westwood Country Club. Gagliardo accused Lavin of unethical conduct regarding the purchase, even filing an ethics complaint. Lavin defended his actions, stating he recused himself from the September 25 vote on the transfer.
Lavin, who was first elected to the Amherst Town Board in 2017, has committed to a platform focused on “deliberative development” in local neighborhoods. His agenda includes investments to repair town roads and bridges, enhancing services, and reforming local government practices.
He will replace current supervisor Brian Kulpa, who is ineligible for a third term under town law after serving two terms. Lavin’s victory promises a shift in leadership that could impact local governance and community services significantly.
This election not only shapes the future of Amherst but also reflects the heightened engagement of voters in local politics. As Lavin prepares to take office, the community will be closely watching how he implements his ambitious plans to improve quality of life in the town.
Stay tuned for further updates as Lavin outlines his transition plans and addresses the pressing issues facing Amherst. This victory is a clear indication of the changing political landscape in the region, and its implications will be felt across the community.
