GOP Strategist Urges Republicans: “Get Your Act Together!” Now
UPDATE: A leading GOP strategist is urgently calling on Republicans to “get their act together” following a strong Democratic showing in the recent elections. Pollster Frank Luntz criticized GOP reactions during a live interview on CNN with anchor Brianna Keilar earlier today, stating that the off-year elections are crucial for understanding voter sentiment.
Luntz’s remarks come after Mike Johnson (R-LA), Speaker of the House, downplayed the importance of these elections. “It does matter. And Democrats voted and Republicans did not,” Luntz emphasized, highlighting the stark turnout differences. He noted that with Democrats controlling the presidency, the House, and the Senate, their voters are motivated to show up at the polls, while Republicans lack that drive.
Looking ahead, Luntz pointed to the potential impact of California’s Proposition 50, which could swing five additional Republican seats to Democrats, potentially altering the balance of power in the House of Representatives. “That could very well make the difference in the majority one year from now,” he warned.
Luntz also identified affordability as a key issue driving voter turnout. He stated, “It is very clear… and it’s not inflation, it’s affordability,” referring to concerns over housing, health care, and food prices. “The public is voting for candidates that they think will make life more affordable.”
As Democratic candidates like Abigail Spanberger and Mikie Sherrill win in Virginia and New Jersey, Luntz noted their focus on affordability resonates with voters, stating, “The president made promises. Now he has to keep them.” He cautioned that the rising costs of basic necessities will significantly influence upcoming elections.
Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump acknowledged that the election cycle has not favored Republicans, attributing the outcome to his party’s lack of action. “To some degree, yes. He wasn’t on the ballot,” Luntz explained, emphasizing that voter discontent is palpable.
Luntz also voiced frustration over the current government shutdown, asserting that the public is fed up with inaction in Washington. “Get your act together. Do your job. Come together. Compromise and move everything forward,” he urged. He warned that both parties risk losing voter support if they fail to address pressing issues.
The urgency of these comments underscores a critical moment for the Republican Party as they navigate the fallout from recent elections. With only 12 months until the next significant electoral contests, the call for unity and action is louder than ever.
As the political landscape shifts, all eyes will be on how Republicans respond to this challenge. Will they heed Luntz’s advice and shift their strategies to engage voters around pressing economic concerns? Only time will tell, but the clock is ticking.
