Susanna Reid Reveals Weight Loss Journey with Lifestyle Changes
Susanna Reid, the presenter of Good Morning Britain, has shared her successful weight loss journey, revealing that she lost 1.5 stone through lifestyle changes rather than traditional gym workouts. The 54-year-old broadcaster, who has been a prominent figure on the show since its launch in 2014, candidly discussed her challenges with weight gain during the coronavirus lockdowns and her subsequent efforts to shed those extra pounds.
During a December 2018 broadcast, Reid disclosed her decision to stop going to the gym, explaining that it made her feel excessively hungry. “I stopped going to the gym, I found it made me too hungry,” she stated while conversing with former co-presenter Piers Morgan. The presenter emphasized that she had achieved her weight loss goal without the need for gym sessions, stating, “I’ve levelled out, I lost a stone-and-a-half and that’s enough.”
The journey toward a healthier lifestyle began for Reid when she consulted her doctor regarding skin issues. Her GP noted that she was at the upper limit of a healthy BMI for her height and encouraged her to lose weight. Following this advice, Reid focused on improving her nutrition and eliminated snacking during her demanding work schedule. She remarked on the positive changes, stating, “I now feel fantastic.”
Impact of Early Hours and Dietary Choices
Reid highlighted the challenges posed by her early morning wake-up time of 4 a.m., which she felt contributed to her cravings. “What I did was cut out snacking,” she explained to ITV colleague Lorraine Kelly. “Waking up so early puts you in a sort of energy deficit.” She noted that this often leads to a quick accumulation of weight if one is not careful with food choices.
In terms of her diet, Reid mentioned that she mainly consumes fish while largely avoiding other meats. A significant lifestyle change came in 2019 when she decided to quit alcohol after experiencing negative effects on her skin. She explained that drinking exacerbated her skin condition, leading to issues such as flushed skin and permanent scarring. “I’m rather glad I’ve given up drink because lockdown drinking, the pandemic prosecco, has been a serious issue,” Reid reflected. She acknowledged that her skin problems were likely a result of her dietary choices, stating, “My skin was probably a manifestation of what I was putting into my body.”
Commitment to a Healthier Lifestyle
Reid’s commitment to her new lifestyle is evident, as she even abstained from drinking during her 50th birthday celebrations. Despite the challenges of social situations, she remains steadfast in her decision. She humorously recounted that her sobriety prompted Morgan to label her “the world’s biggest bore.”
Through her openness about her journey, Susanna Reid not only sets an example for others facing similar struggles but also highlights the importance of addressing personal health concerns with professional guidance. Her story serves as an inspiration for individuals looking to make meaningful changes in their lives without relying solely on conventional methods.
