EA Shifts Strategy, Delays New F1 Game Until 2027
Electronic Arts (EA) has announced a significant shift in its approach to the popular Formula 1 gaming series. Instead of releasing a new title for the upcoming 2026 season, the company will offer a paid expansion for F1 25. This change is part of what EA describes as “a strategic reset for the F1 franchise.” The expansion is set to align with substantial changes in the sport for the 2026 season, including new cars, regulations, teams, and drivers.
According to EA’s press release, the 2026 DLC will serve as a “premium content update” that reflects the evolving landscape of Formula 1. Specific details regarding the timing and pricing of this expansion will be revealed in 2026. The decision to forgo a new game release in favor of an update indicates EA’s commitment to adapting its offerings to the sport’s dynamic nature.
Looking ahead, EA has confirmed that the next full-fledged F1 game will be launched in 2027. The company promises a “reimagined experience” that aims to deliver a more authentic and innovative representation of Formula 1 racing. EA has indicated that this upcoming title will feature a more expansive gameplay experience, which is intended to engage fans worldwide in new ways.
The announcement comes alongside a broader strategic investment in the F1 franchise, supported by Formula One Management and various F1 teams. EA has not disclosed specific details about the planned features for the 2027 game but emphasizes its goal of capturing the “action and thrill of Formula 1.”
In a related development, Apple has also made a significant move in the F1 landscape. The tech giant signed a multi-year agreement to stream Formula 1 races on Apple TV in the United States starting in 2024. This partnership underscores the growing interest in F1 and the competitive nature of broadcasting rights in the sports industry.
As the landscape of Formula 1 continues to evolve, EA’s strategic choices reflect a larger trend within the gaming industry to adapt to real-world changes and fan expectations. With significant updates planned for F1 25 and a promising roadmap leading to 2027, fans can anticipate new experiences in the world of virtual racing.
