Jets Coach Aaron Glenn Provides Positive Update on Kris Boyd’s Recovery
The NFL community reacted with shock and concern after New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd was reported in critical condition following a shooting in Manhattan early on November 12, 2023. In a positive development, Jets head coach Aaron Glenn provided an encouraging update on Boyd’s recovery during a press conference on November 15, 2023.
Promising Signs Following the Incident
Glenn revealed that he had recently spoken with Boyd, who appears to be making significant strides in his recovery. “He’s going to come out of this thing really, really well,” Glenn stated, according to Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk. The coach expressed relief that Boyd is in good spirits, along with his wife and child. “That eases my mind,” he added, emphasizing the importance of Boyd’s emotional state during this challenging time.
Boyd joined the Jets on a one-year deal earlier in March but was placed on season-ending injured reserve in August due to a shoulder injury incurred during a team scrimmage. His current situation arose after an altercation outside the Sei Less Asian Fusion nightclub, where he was present with teammates Jamien Sherwood and Irvin Charles. Reports from the New York Post indicate that Boyd started to feel uneasy about the atmosphere inside the club, and shortly after, a shooting occurred, leaving a bullet lodged in his lungs.
Ongoing Investigation and Team Focus
As of November 15, 2023, the shooter remains at large, adding to the distress of the situation. The Jets have had a tough season, currently standing at a disappointing 2-8 following a loss to the New England Patriots on November 13. With their next game against the Baltimore Ravens scheduled for November 19, Glenn noted that the team is prioritizing Boyd’s well-being over any long-term considerations regarding his career.
“Once I heard about the situation, my first thoughts were of his family, especially since he just had a child,” Glenn remarked. “I want to make sure that he’s okay, and that was my main concern.” He conveyed comfort from Boyd’s upbeat demeanor during their conversation, which offers a glimmer of hope amid the current circumstances.
The Jets continue to focus on their upcoming game while keeping Boyd and his family in their thoughts. The NFL community remains hopeful for a swift and complete recovery for the dedicated player.
