Cynthia Erivo Celebrates Grammy Nominations on The Tonight Show
Cynthia Erivo received significant recognition this week as she appeared on *The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon* to discuss her busy schedule and surprise Grammy nominations. The award-winning actress and singer, who is reprising her role as Elphaba in the upcoming film *Wicked: For Good*, expressed her astonishment at being nominated for two Grammy Awards. One nomination is for her performance of “Defying Gravity,” featuring Ariana Grande, in the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance category. The other nomination is for “Be Okay” in the Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella category.
In a candid conversation with Fallon, Erivo stated, “I didn’t even know we could be nominated for that. I didn’t know we could be eligible.” This revelation highlights the unexpected nature of her recent accolades as she continues to gain recognition for her artistic contributions.
Erivo’s achievements extend beyond music; her performance in the original *Wicked* film, which grossed nearly $750 million at the global box office, marks a historic moment for Broadway musical adaptations. The sequel, *Wicked: For Good*, is set to hit theaters on November 21, 2024, and is projected to generate over $120 million domestically during its opening weekend, according to *The Hollywood Reporter*. Such figures would set a new benchmark for Broadway adaptations.
In addition to her film work, Erivo also recently published her autobiography titled *Simply More* and graced the cover of Britain’s *GQ*. Her multifaceted career continues to thrive as she balances acting, singing, and now writing.
During her appearance on Fallon’s show, Erivo shared insights into her creative process, including her favorite songs from *Wicked*. She humorously compared the task of ranking her favorite songs to choosing among her children. The actress also recounted a delightful story behind a viral meme involving a lost hat, showcasing her engaging personality.
As *Wicked: For Good* approaches its release, anticipation builds not only for the film but also for Erivo’s continued impact on the entertainment industry. Universal Pictures is managing expectations, suggesting that any domestic revenue around $115 million would be considered a major success.
With her evolving career and newfound Grammy recognition, Cynthia Erivo remains a prominent figure in both film and music, captivating audiences around the world.
