Colin Jost and Michael Che Share Their Dream Hosts for SNL
During a recent appearance on ManningCast, Saturday Night Live stars Colin Jost and Michael Che revealed their top choices for dream hosts of the iconic television show. The duo, who co-anchor the popular “Weekend Update” segment, joined Peyton Manning during the third quarter of the NFL game between the Carolina Panthers and San Francisco 49ers to discuss their ideal selections.
When asked to name their dream host, Che immediately mentioned Denzel Washington. He expressed admiration for Washington’s extensive film career but noted that audiences rarely see the actor showcase his comedic side. “I think Denzel, of all of the great movies that he’s done, we so rarely get to see him just be funny and silly,” Che remarked. He emphasized that Washington is among the greatest American actors, making a potential SNL appearance particularly exciting.
Jost supported Che’s choice, highlighting Washington’s impressive background in theater. “He’s played down the block a ton of times, so it would be really cool to see what he does [on SNL] in a way that we’ve never seen him,” Jost added.
Manning agreed with Che’s selection, stating he would also “love to have” Washington as a guest on his show. This exchange showcased the camaraderie among the trio as they shared their aspirations for future guests.
For his own dream host, Jost chose a legendary athlete: Tiger Woods. “Huge. I would love it,” Jost declared, expressing his enthusiasm for the idea of having Woods on the iconic sketch show. He also mentioned Michael Jordan, noting, “I would also love if [Michael] Jordan ever came back, now that he’s doing some broadcast stuff for the NBA… That would be such a cool one.”
Jost’s third pick was another basketball star, Steph Curry. “I think Steph’s never done it. Maybe there’s the right timing for him to do it,” he said, acknowledging the scheduling challenges posed by the NBA season. He pointed out that NBA players typically need to be available early in the season, as SNL traditionally hosts its first show of the year in September.
Before diving into the dream host conversation, Manning shared that he and his brother Eli Manning had spoken to their own dream guest, former President George W. Bush, on their show the previous week. Manning referred to Bush as one of their “white whales,” a term indicating a highly sought-after guest.
Manning also displayed a list of his own dream guests for ManningCast, which included notable names such as Larry David, Jamie Foxx, and even Pope Leo XIV, illustrating the high-profile nature of his aspirations.
The playful exchange between Jost, Che, and Manning underscores the enduring appeal of SNL and its potential for bringing together diverse talents from the realms of entertainment and sports. As viewers anticipate future seasons of the show, the idea of these dream hosts adds an exciting layer of possibility to its legacy.
