All eyes are on Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin as he approaches a pivotal decision regarding his future in college football. Kiffin is expected to announce whether he will remain in Oxford through 2026 or accept offers from Florida or LSU by Saturday, just one day after the No. 6 Rebels face Mississippi State in the highly anticipated “Egg Bowl” on November 24, 2023.

The SEC coaching carousel is heating up with significant vacancies at Florida and LSU, creating a buzz that has captivated fans and analysts alike. Meanwhile, Auburn and Arkansas are also seeking new leadership. Reports indicate that Auburn is closing in on Tulane head coach Jon Sumrall as a top candidate.

The coaching search for Arkansas has been notably quiet since the firing of Sam Pittman on September 28. However, speculation is swirling around recently dismissed Las Vegas Raiders offensive coordinator Chip Kelly, who may be a strong contender for the Razorbacks’ position. His previous success with Ohio State’s offense during their national championship win in January has added to his appeal.

Additionally, Eric Morris, head coach at North Texas and former offensive coordinator at Texas Tech, is emerging as a “top contender” for openings at both Oklahoma State and Arkansas. Morris has garnered attention for his impressive work with quarterbacks, including mentoring Patrick Mahomes, the Kansas City Chiefs superstar, and Tennessee Titans quarterback Cam Ward. Under Morris’s guidance, North Texas freshman quarterback Drew Mestemaker has shown significant development, further solidifying his reputation as a rising coaching talent.

Morris, aged 40, played wide receiver at Texas Tech and was instrumental in developing Mahomes into a first-round NFL draft pick while serving as the offensive coordinator during Mahomes’s time in Lubbock. After his tenure at Texas Tech, Morris led Incarnate Word to a 24-18 record before taking a brief role at Washington State. He currently stands with a 21-15 record at North Texas, leading the program to a remarkable 10-1 season as they prepare to close out the regular season against Temple.

As the clock ticks down to Kiffin’s decision, the landscape of SEC coaching is about to shift dramatically. Fans and stakeholders are eagerly awaiting the announcements that could reshape the future of these historic programs. Stay tuned for updates as this story develops.
