Dense Fog Advisory Issued for South Central PA – Visibility Plummets
UPDATE: A dense fog advisory has been issued for South Central Pennsylvania, affecting multiple counties until Wednesday at 8 a.m.. The National Weather Service warns that visibility could drop to 1/4 mile or less, severely impacting travel conditions.
As of 10:28 p.m. Tuesday, officials confirmed that areas including Franklin, Dauphin, Schuylkill, Lebanon, Cumberland, Adams, York, and Lancaster counties are facing hazardous driving conditions. Current reports show visibility on Interstate 81 in Schuylkill County has already fallen to just a few hundred feet.
The weather service emphasizes that these dangerous conditions could lead to accidents. “Consider allowing extra time to reach your destination,” they advise. If you must drive, take immediate precautions:
– **Slow down** and allow more time for your trips.
– Use **low-beam headlights** to enhance visibility without causing glare.
– Maintain a safe distance from other vehicles to react to sudden stops.
– If visibility drops to near zero, activate your hazard lights and safely pull over.
Authorities are urging residents to exercise caution and consider postponing non-essential travel. “Widespread dense fog has developed, and visibility can plummet rapidly,” the weather service warns.
Stay tuned for further updates as conditions evolve. The safety of all drivers is the top priority. Share this information with friends and family to ensure everyone stays alert and safe on the roads.
