Major Upgrade: Saker ShopRite Construction Begins in Manahawkin
Construction has officially commenced on a new Saker ShopRite in Manahawkin, New Jersey, marking a significant development for local shoppers. The supermarket will occupy the former Kmart location at Manahawkin Commons on Route 72, transforming a once-vacant space into a modern grocery destination. The new store is anticipated to cover approximately 116,000 square feet, positioning it as one of the largest supermarkets in the area.
Transforming the Retail Landscape
This project represents more than just a renovation; it is a complete overhaul of the existing structure. The Stafford Township Planning Board granted final approval for the development in March 2023, spurring construction crews to commence work shortly thereafter. This revitalization is expected to breathe new life into a shopping center that has experienced dwindling foot traffic since the closure of the Super Kmart a few years ago.
The transformation is being executed in three distinct phases. Phase One involves renovating the old Kmart building and upgrading the parking lot. Phase Two will see the addition of new sections to expand the store’s offerings, while Phase Three includes the construction of a new access road from Route 72 to improve accessibility for shoppers.
Boosting Local Economy and Community Engagement
The introduction of the new ShopRite is poised to invigorate the Manahawkin Commons area. Local residents have expressed optimism that the new supermarket will not only enhance grocery shopping options but also attract additional businesses to the plaza. With a modern ShopRite as the anchor store, the shopping center is set to regain its status as a bustling retail hub.
As construction progresses, the community eagerly anticipates the completion of this world-class supermarket, which promises to offer an array of fresh produce, groceries, and other essential items. The new ShopRite is expected to significantly improve the shopping experience in the area and provide a much-needed boost to the local economy.
As work continues, residents will be closely monitoring the development, looking forward to the positive changes it will bring to the community. The revitalization of the Manahawkin Commons, highlighted by the arrival of the Saker ShopRite, is a hopeful sign of renewed economic activity in the region.
