Brandy Explains Abrupt Exit from Chicago Stage During Tour
R&B artist Brandy has addressed fans following her unexpected departure from the stage during a performance in Chicago on March 23, 2024. While performing as part of “The Boy is Mine Tour” at the United Center, Brandy stopped mid-song, informing the audience, “Give me one second, y’all, I gotta get my …,” before exiting backstage. This left fellow performer Monica to conclude the show alone, ending with their iconic duet, “The Boy is Mine.”
In a Facebook post on March 24, Brandy expressed her gratitude for the audience’s support and offered an explanation for her sudden exit. She revealed that she experienced dehydration during the performance, which led to feelings of faintness. Brandy emphasized the importance of her health, stating that the decision to step away was made collectively with her team.
She wrote:
“I sincerely apologize for the abrupt end to last night’s performance in Chicago. After weeks of nonstop rehearsals, I experienced dehydration and feelings of wanting to faint… everyone involved agreed that prioritizing my well-being was of the utmost importance.”
Brandy continued to thank Monica for her professionalism in handling the situation. In her statement, she acknowledged the challenges presented by the technical demands of the performance, which made it difficult for her to connect with the production while unwell.
Following the incident, Brandy sought medical attention and took appropriate precautions to ensure her recovery. She reassured fans that she looks forward to returning to the stage, stating, “I went from the arena to see a doctor nearby… I look forward to returning to the stage — stronger and more grateful than ever — alongside my girl, Monica, Sunday night in Indianapolis.”
“The Boy is Mine Tour” began on March 21, 2024, in Cincinnati, celebrating the legacy of the 1998 hit single that topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart and won a Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group. The song was featured on both Brandy’s album “Never Say Never” and Monica’s self-titled album, “The Boy Is Mine.”
Brandy and Monica also collaborated on the 2012 track “It All Belongs to Me,” which further solidified their musical partnership. As the tour progresses, fans eagerly anticipate the performances ahead, hoping for a seamless and energetic show from both artists.
