The cast of the crime thriller series Absentia has ventured into new projects since the show’s unexpected resurgence on streaming platforms. Originally canceled after its third season in 2020, the series gained renewed popularity four years later when all its episodes transitioned from Prime Video to Netflix. The show, featuring Stana Katic as FBI special agent Emily Byrne, captivated audiences, climbing into the top 10 viewership charts soon after its arrival on the new platform.

Stana Katic confirmed in May 2021 that there would be no fourth season. She expressed pride in the show’s journey, describing it as a “beautiful, complicated and wonderfully fulfilling journey.” Katic noted that “three seasons was the perfect amount of space” to conclude Emily’s story, as she dealt with the aftermath of her six-year captivity and the changes in her family life.

Following the conclusion of Absentia, Katic has remained active in her career. In addition to her role as an executive producer, she has lent her voice to Wonder Woman in three animated films featuring the superhero. Katic also made a guest appearance in the upcoming Fox series Murder in a Small Town, set to air in 2024. In personal news, she welcomed her first child with husband Kris Brkljac in early 2022, marking a new chapter in their family life.

What the Cast is Doing Now

The other cast members of Absentia have also been busy pursuing diverse projects. Matthew Le Nevez, who portrayed FBI Special Agent Cal Isaac, returned to Australia to compete on Celebrity MasterChef Australia, finishing in eighth place. In 2023, he appeared on the lifestyle series Luxury Escapes: The World’s Best Holidays. Le Nevez and his partner, Michelle Smith, are parents to two children, a son named Levi and a daughter named Wren.

Patrick Heusinger, who played Emily’s husband, Special Agent Nick Durand, has made guest appearances in various shows, including Law & Order and Corporate. In 2025, Heusinger will star in a stage adaptation of the horror film franchise Paranormal Activity. He took to Instagram to celebrate Absentia hitting number two on Netflix, expressing excitement over the show’s resurgence.

Cara Theobold, known for her role as Nick’s second wife, Alice, has continued her acting career with roles in the romantic comedy Promises and popular U.K. series such as Death in Paradise and Manhunt. She also secured a recurring role in the BBC Three drama Boarders.

Neil Jackson, who played Emily’s troubled brother, Jack, starred in the 2021 film The King’s Man alongside Ralph Fiennes. Recently, he portrayed the DC Comics villain Icicle in The CW’s series Stargirl. In April 2024, Jackson shared on Instagram that he married his partner, Kim Jackson, in a heartfelt ceremony.

Angel Bonanni appeared as Boston police detective Tommy Gibbs in the first two seasons of Absentia. He has since acted in the action film The Engineer and returned to Prime Video for a recurring role in the crime-drama El Cid. Bonanni and his wife, Andrea Leitersdorf, have welcomed two children since their marriage in 2014.

Lastly, Ralph Ineson, who played Special Agent Adam Radford, has had a prolific career post-Absentia. He is known for his roles in popular films such as The First Omen and the original British version of The Office. Ineson has also been cast as the Marvel villain Galactus in the upcoming film The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

The unexpected revival of Absentia on Netflix has offered a second wind not just for the series, but also for its cast members, who continue to evolve in their respective careers while celebrating their shared experience on the show. As they navigate their future projects, fans can look back fondly at the complex narrative that Absentia provided over its three seasons.
