Jimmy Kimmel Claps Back at Trump’s Demand for His Dismissal
Jimmy Kimmel addressed former President Donald Trump‘s recent demand for his dismissal during the latest episode of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” on Thursday night. Trump called for ABC to “get the bum off the air,” following Kimmel’s commentary on his actions in a previous episode. Kimmel seized the opportunity to respond, delivering a sharp critique of Trump while also making a humorous suggestion to his audience.
Kimmel pointed out Trump’s remarks about television ratings, quipping, “He keeps saying we have bad ratings. And you should listen to him – because if anyone knows about bad ratings, it’s that guy!” The late-night host used this moment to remind viewers of Trump’s previous attempts to have him fired back in September 2023.
During the segment, Kimmel expressed a willingness to exit television if Trump were to leave as well, jokingly proposing, “I’ll go when you go. We’ll be a team. Let’s ride off into the sunset together!” This playful banter showcased Kimmel’s knack for mixing humor with political commentary.
In a further jab at Trump, Kimmel referenced the former president’s recent outburst toward a reporter, in which he told her to “quiet, piggy.” This comment was subsequently defended by Karoline Leavitt, who characterized Trump’s language as “frank and honest.” Kimmel continued to criticize Trump’s approach to media, accusing him of trying to control the narrative by promoting a “choose your own news anchor” strategy in relation to late-night hosts and journalists that he disagrees with.
Looking ahead, Kimmel’s contract with ABC is set to expire in 2026. While there has been no official announcement regarding his plans beyond that date, the ongoing exchanges with Trump provide ample material for his comedic commentary.
As late-night television continues to serve as a platform for political satire, Kimmel’s interactions with Trump exemplify the dynamic nature of the entertainment landscape. His ability to blend current events with humor keeps audiences engaged, ensuring that he remains a prominent figure in the realm of political comedy.
