Netflix Partners with Yash Raj Films to Stream Bollywood Classics
Netflix has announced a significant partnership with India’s renowned film studio, Yash Raj Films (YRF), making a selection of Bollywood classics available to its streaming subscribers worldwide. This collaboration is set to roll out in phases, aligning with festivals, special occasions, and cinematic milestones, enabling fans globally to access cherished Hindi films from the comfort of their homes.
The launch begins on November 1, 2023, coinciding with the birthday of Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan. On this date, nine of Khan’s most iconic films produced by YRF will become available, including classics such as “Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge,” “Mohabbatein,” “Dil Toh Pagal Hai,” “Veer Zara,” and “Chak De India.” Following this initial release, other beloved titles will be added to the platform starting November 14, featuring films like “Chandni,” “Lamhe,” “Kabhi Kabhie,” and “Silsila.”
The holiday season will witness an impressive lineup of daily releases, with a total of 34 films premiering from December 12 to 28. Viewers can anticipate the release of two films each day, including popular titles such as “Bunty Aur Babli,” “Hum Tum,” “Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic,” “Mujhse Dosti Karoge,” and “Ta Ra Rum Pum.” Additionally, three blockbusters starring Salman Khan—“Ek Tha Tiger,” “Sultan,” and “Tiger Zinda Hai”—will be available for streaming on December 27, celebrating the actor’s birthday.
This partnership extends beyond the holiday season, with a special collection launching on February 7, 2026, just in time for Valentine’s week. This collection will feature eight romantic titles, including “Saathiya,” “Ishaqzaade,” “Bachna Ae Haseeno,” and “Salaam Namaste.” Furthermore, popular franchises such as the “Dhoom” trilogy, which includes a performance by Aamir Khan in a dual role, will begin streaming on November 28, 2023. The “Mardaani” series, starring Rani Mukerji, is scheduled to arrive on January 22, 2026.
Monika Shergill, Vice President of India Content at Netflix, stated, “This partnership marks a milestone for Indian cinema on Netflix. For nearly a decade, we’ve been proud to be the home of India’s finest stories. From the beloved docu-series ‘The Romantics’ to now bringing these timeless blockbusters to our members, we’re deepening our commitment to championing the depth, diversity, and emotion of Indian storytelling.”
Shergill emphasized the significance of the collaboration, stating, “This collaboration brings together YRF’s rich heritage and Netflix’s unparalleled reach to celebrate Indian cinema in all its glory— not just in India, but globally.” She highlighted that as these films become available, fans can relive the magic of iconic stars while new audiences discover their timeless appeal.
Akshaye Widhani, CEO of Yash Raj Films, expressed his excitement about the partnership. “For over 50 years, Yash Raj Films has been fortunate to help shape the heart and soul of Indian cinema through its iconic stories. We are deeply humbled by the love and trust that audiences have showered on our movies. Bringing this remarkable cinematic legacy to Netflix allows the world to experience the color, music, and magic of India and Indian cinema that YRF has always celebrated.”
Widhani further elaborated on the significance of the YRF library, stating, “Our library is more than a collection of iconic films; it’s a gateway to five decades of culture, creativity, and passion.
