Paramount+ Expands ‘MobLand’ Cast for Thrilling Season 2
Paramount+ has announced the addition of actors Johnny Flynn and Ophelia Lovibond as series regulars for the second season of its crime drama, MobLand. This follows the show’s successful first season, which captivated audiences and garnered impressive viewership numbers. Production for the new season has been underway in London for several weeks.
The series, created by Ronan Bennett and executive produced by Guy Ritchie, delves into the violent power struggles between two rival crime families in London: the Harrigans and the Stevensons. As these factions battle for supremacy, the stakes rise, threatening to dismantle empires and devastate lives. At the center of this turmoil is Harry Da Souza, portrayed by Tom Hardy. Da Souza is depicted as a street-smart fixer whose dangerous charm masks his deep understanding of the loyalties that govern the criminal underworld.
Season 1 introduced audiences to key characters, including Pierce Brosnan as Conrad Harrigan, a former mob boss, and Helen Mirren as Maeve Harrigan, the formidable matriarch of the family. The cast also features Paddy Considine, Joanne Froggatt, Lara Pulver, and Anson Boon, among others. Returning for the second season are Janet McTeer, Toby Jones, and Alex Fine, who will reprise their roles. McTeer plays Kat McAllister, a powerful figure in the international crime scene, while Jones takes on the role of Colin Tattersall, a retired detective intent on dismantling the Harrigan empire.
The success of MobLand prompted its renewal for a second season in June, following ratings that exceeded expectations. According to internal streaming data, the premiere episode has attracted an impressive 26 million views within the first 70 days in the United States and other English-speaking markets, where the series debuted on March 30, 2023. The show also made a notable impact in non-English speaking regions, launching on May 30 and quickly securing its place as the second-largest debut for a Paramount original series, trailing only behind Landman.
Moreover, MobLand consistently ranked in the Nielsen Top 10 list of Streaming Originals for five consecutive weeks after the airing of its third episode. The series is a collaborative effort, commissioned by Paramount+ and produced alongside Paramount Television Studios and 101 Studios. The executive production team includes David C. Glasser, Jez Butterworth, Ivan Atkinson, and others, showcasing a wealth of talent behind the scenes.
As anticipation builds for Season 2, viewers can catch up on all episodes of MobLand available for streaming now on Paramount+. With a powerful ensemble cast and gripping storylines, the series promises to deliver more high-stakes drama and intense confrontations in its upcoming season.
