Community Mourns the Passing of Donald Dicklich, 1953-2025
Donald Dicklich, a respected figure in his community, passed away on October 27, 2025, after a prolonged battle with esophageal cancer. Born to Bogdan “Bob” Dicklich and Mildred Kelsey Dicklich, he was a lifelong resident of Hibbing, Minnesota, where he made significant contributions to both his profession and community.
Dicklich graduated from Hibbing Schools in 1971 and was a proud member of the school’s ice hockey team that secured third place in the state championship in 1970. He later pursued higher education at the University of Minnesota, earning a Bachelor of Science in Business and subsequently upgrading his qualifications with a Master of Business Administration (MBA).
In June 1975, he married Mary Zanoni, with whom he had two daughters, Gina Marie and Dawn Michele. His professional journey began at U.S. Steel Corp., where he held various positions, starting at the Mintac Mine and Plant before moving on to the USS Great Lakes Fleet, overseeing product shipments across the Great Lakes.
After his tenure in the steel industry, Dicklich transitioned to healthcare administration, dedicating 14 years to what is now known as Essentia Health. His career continued to flourish as he took on the role of Administrative Manager and Chief Financial Officer at the Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation Board, an economic development agency for the State of Minnesota.
In a pivotal moment of his career, he was appointed as the St. Louis County Auditor-Treasurer by the County Board. He later won election to the office, serving three terms and nearly 15 years in total before his retirement in January 2019.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dicklich was deeply involved in his church community. He served on several boards, including the church’s president, and was an active member of the Men’s Club and choir.
He is survived by his daughters, Gina Lund and Dawn Verdone, as well as his siblings: Ron (Samantha) Dicklich, Diana (Paul) Broste, and Cherilyn McEnery (friend Scott). Dicklich also leaves behind five nieces, one nephew, eight grandnieces and grandnephews, and a granddaughter, Kennady Lund, who was a significant joy in his life.
The community remembers Donald Dicklich not only for his professional achievements but also for his dedication to family, faith, and service. His legacy will undoubtedly continue to inspire those who knew him.
