The Calcasieu Parish School Board has honored three exceptional school counselors for the 2025–2026 academic year, recognizing their significant contributions to the success and well-being of students. The district-level Counselor of the Year recipients are Karen Sullivan from Nelson Elementary School, Angela Celestine from S.J. Welsh Middle School, and Hope Berry from Iowa High School.
Dr. Jason VanMetre, Superintendent of the Calcasieu Parish School Board, emphasized the importance of school counselors in fostering a supportive environment. “School counselors are essential to the well-being and success of our students,” he stated. “They listen, encourage, guide, and support every child who walks through our doors. These three counselors lead with compassion and professionalism, and we are proud to recognize them for the positive impact they make each day in their schools and in the lives of our families.”
Profiles of the Honorees
