Community Mourns Passing of Acclaimed Artist Gloria Rosencrants

Gloria Rosencrants, a cherished member of the Rochester community, passed away on October 18, 2025, at the age of 94. She was the beloved wife of Ed Rosencrants, who predeceased her on July 9, 2025. Gloria’s life was marked by her artistic accomplishments, dedication to community service, and immense love for her family and friends.

Born in South St. Paul, Minnesota, to William and Ann Leimbek, Gloria attended South St. Paul High School, where she met Ed. The couple married on June 20, 1953, and remained devoted to each other throughout their lives. They celebrated their enduring love by exchanging letters every Christmas for 72 years, a reflection of their deep bond.

Gloria pursued her passion for art at the University of Minnesota, where she majored in fine arts. As a talented artist, she received numerous local and state awards for her work. She also contributed her skills as a freelance artist for K&K Realty, Edina Realty, and the historical societies of Rochester and Olmsted County. Her artistic talents expanded into quilting and Norwegian Hardanger needlework, earning her recognition as a Norwegian Cultural Skills Specialist from the Sons of Norway.

Legacy of Community Engagement

Gloria was deeply involved in her community, particularly as a leader in the Girl Scouts. She dedicated many years to empowering young girls, guiding her three daughters and countless others from Brownies to First Class Senior Scouts. Her commitment to fostering confidence and opportunity in young women was a cornerstone of her community service.

A long-time member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church, Gloria joined in 1960. Over the years, she volunteered for various activities, including serving on the Altar Guild and contributing her artistic talents to fundraising events. Her enthusiasm for social activities was contagious; she participated in golf leagues, bridge clubs, and enjoyed cross-country skiing. On the dance floor, Gloria and Ed were unparalleled, captivating the crowd with their lively foxtrot.

Gloria’s spirit of generosity and joy touched everyone she met. She taught her family, friends, and neighbors the importance of living life to the fullest and sharing happiness with others.

Family and Memorial Service

Gloria is survived by her daughters, Robin (Tom) Kleinert, Gail Cook, and Diana (Keith) Kressin, along with five grandchildren: Justin (Heather) Cook, Chris Cook, Teddy Cook, Annie (Mike) Oldenburg, and Jeff (Bryanne) Kleinert. She also leaves behind two great-grandchildren, Henry and Malcolm Oldenburg.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on November 15, 2025, at Mount Olive Lutheran Church, located at 2830 18th Ave NW, Rochester, MN 55901. Prior to the service, there will be a visitation starting at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to either Mount Olive Lutheran Church or the Girl Scouts of Minnesota. Community members are also encouraged to support local Girl Scout troops by purchasing cookies in February, sharing the joy and spirit that Gloria embodied.

Gloria Rosencrants will be remembered for her vibrant personality, artistic talents, and unwavering dedication to her family and community. Her legacy of love and creativity will continue to inspire those who knew her.
