As the El Paso Independent School District (EPISD) concludes its fall celebrations, Interim Superintendent Martha Aguirre has shared updates on student achievements and ongoing initiatives during the district’s superintendent search. Aguirre emphasized the significance of community feedback in shaping the qualities sought in the next superintendent, encouraging participation through an online portal open until November 2, 2023.

The interim superintendent highlighted the remarkable athletic accomplishments within the district. Twelve EPISD athletes have earned recognition for their participation in the UIL Cross Country State Championships held in Round Rock, Texas. Aguirre expressed her support, stating, “We want to wish luck to the 12 athletes who will represent EPISD at Round Rock this weekend,” as reported by El Paso ISD. These athletes hail from various high schools, including Austin, El Paso, Coronado, and Franklin, showcasing the district’s competitive spirit.

In a powerful display of resilience, Burges High School senior Jesus Jasso received special recognition for his determination in overcoming hearing loss. Jasso is set to represent the United States in the 2025 Deaflympics in Tokyo, a testament to his courage and the broader narrative of perseverance that resonates throughout the EPISD community. Aguirre remarked on Jasso’s journey as a shining example of courage, determination, and Mustang pride.

The district is also taking proactive steps to enhance its educational staff. Aguirre announced a hiring initiative aimed at filling roles within the Special Education Department. To attract dedicated educators, a job fair is scheduled for November 6, 2023, from 15:00 to 18:00 at the Professional Development Center, located at 6500 Boeing Drive, El Paso. The initiative underscores EPISD’s commitment to supporting students with diverse learning needs, a priority for the district.

The recent updates reflect a vibrant atmosphere within EPISD, where student achievements and staff opportunities are at the forefront. As the district continues its search for new leadership, community engagement remains a vital component in shaping the future of education in El Paso.
