Hall’s on 5th Thrives in Apopka with Diverse Culinary Offerings
Hall’s on 5th has quickly established itself as a vibrant dining destination in Apopka, Florida, offering a diverse range of culinary experiences since its opening in May 2023. This food hall has attracted a significant number of guests, particularly during its themed events like Tuesday Trivia night, which recently featured questions based on the popular Harry Potter franchise. Even on a weekday, the turnout was impressive, showcasing the growing appeal of this new venue.
Owner and general manager Ella Duke noted that Fridays are particularly busy, coinciding with the city’s weekly Farmers Market held on 5th Street from 18:00 to 21:00. Duke expressed optimism about the shifting dynamics of visitor traffic, especially as summer slows down. “Fridays are great because we take part in hosting the city’s Farmers Market,” she said. “It’s a guaranteed great show of traffic.”
A visit on a Saturday evening revealed a quieter atmosphere, despite the beautiful weather and ample seating options. Hall’s on 5th occupies a historic building, once a feed store established in 1927, which has retained its community charm. The mural on its exterior, painted in the 1960s, stands as a testament to its long-standing presence in Apopka. According to Duke, the Hall family was pleased to see the building transformed into a food hall, retaining its significance in the local community.
Variety of Culinary Offerings
The food hall features a range of vendors, each bringing unique flavors and dishes. One of the standout establishments is Butcher’s Nook, which has garnered attention for its quality meats and sandwiches. The Italian Americano, priced at $17, is a popular choice, loaded with prosciutto cotto, mortadella, Genoa salami, pepperoni, provolone, and a distinctive Butcher’s dressing that adds a crisp texture.
Another highlight is Empanada & Co., known for its freshly made handhelds. Diners can enjoy options such as the ropa vieja and a vegetarian-friendly sweet plantain and cheese empanada, both priced at $5.50 each. These savory treats have proved to be a hit among locals and visitors alike.
For those with a sweet tooth, Parlor Kitchen offers the award-winning corn mochi waffle, which won Judge’s Pick for “Best Dessert in the U.S.” at the 2024 Dessert Wars competition. The dish is a delightful combination of sweetness and texture, making it a must-try for dessert lovers.
The plant-based offerings at Soulicious Vegan Kitchen have also drawn attention, with a $30 sampler allowing guests to choose from a variety of options, including jerk oyster mushroom tacos and jackfruit “brisket” sliders. The vibrant colors and bold flavors in the dishes are designed to appeal to both vegans and non-vegans.
Community Engagement and Future Plans
Hall’s on 5th is not just a place to eat; it serves as a community hub, with events designed to engage locals. Duke mentioned popular events like Wednesday’s Domino Night and Thursday’s “Girl Dinner,” featuring unique shareable dishes from each vendor at $8 each.
The food hall has quickly become a symbol of Apopka’s evolving downtown landscape, attracting both residents and visitors. Duke expressed excitement about the caliber of chefs involved and the positive community response. “We’re so excited to have a food hall in Apopka,” she stated, highlighting the honor of featuring chefs with strong followings.
As Hall’s on 5th continues to develop its offerings and schedule, it stands poised to play a vital role in the city’s culinary scene, providing a diverse and engaging dining experience for all.
