John B. Gordon 383 UDC Secures 35 Awards at 130th GA Convention
The John B. Gordon 383 Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC) achieved remarkable success at the 130th Georgia Division Convention, earning a total of 35 awards. This recognition reflects the chapter’s commitment to the UDC’s core objectives, which encompass historical, educational, benevolent, and patriotic initiatives.
President Sheila Tucker expressed pride in the chapter’s accomplishments, stating, “All of the awards our chapter received are related to the UDC objectives one way or another. It took the members working together and thinking of others to make our year be so successful.” The convention took place in Marietta, providing a platform for various UDC chapters across Georgia to showcase their efforts.
Acknowledgment of Achievements
Among the accolades received by the John B. Gordon 383 Chapter are several prestigious awards. Notable recognitions include:
– First Place, Jane Grier Durden Award for Bestowing the Most National Defense Medals
– First Place, Blount Memorial Cup for Purchasing the Most Crosses of Military Service Medals
– First Place, Recorder of Military Service Award for Most Vietnam War Crosses
– First Place (Tie), Recorder of Military Service Award for Most Global War on Terror Crosses
– First Place, Recorder of Military Service Award for Most Outstanding Report
In addition to these honors, the chapter received various awards for its reports and programs, including the Homeland Defense Service Medals and the Jo Anne Rye Award for Best Memorial Day Program. The chapter’s dedication to engaging with its community and celebrating historical events has clearly resonated with the Georgia Division.
Community Engagement and Future Plans
The convention also featured a Presidents’ Banquet, which allowed chapter leaders to share their achievements over the past year. Each president had the opportunity to highlight their chapter’s positive projects and initiatives. The John B. Gordon 383 UDC chapter remains deeply involved in supporting veterans, first responders, and those in Homeland Security.
Tucker remarked on the chapter’s commitment to education, stating, “Our chapter proudly gives non-fictional children’s American History books and books about Georgia to local schools and public libraries. We proudly celebrate Georgia Day (February 12) each year.” This focus on education and community service demonstrates the chapter’s ongoing dedication to its mission.
With the new term for 2025-2026 underway, Tucker is already planning initiatives aimed at further supporting veterans and enhancing community involvement. The chapter’s achievements at the convention serve as a strong foundation for future endeavors, as they continue to honor their commitments and engage positively with their community.
