Alvin Kamara Reiterates Desire to Stay with Saints Amid Trade Rumors
New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara expressed his commitment to the team during a press conference on Thursday, directly addressing ongoing trade rumors. Despite speculation that he could be on the move, Kamara made it clear he has no intention of leaving New Orleans, stating, “I don’t want to go anywhere.”
The discussion arose following a report from NFL Network, which indicated that Saints general manager Mickey Loomis had approached Kamara after receiving inquiries from other teams. According to the report, Loomis asked Kamara if there was any particular team he would prefer to join. Kamara humorously referenced the report, likening his conversation with Loomis to the famous Spiderman meme, where two characters point at each other in confusion.
“I don’t know where that [report] came from,” Kamara responded. “I think I’ve been vocal enough that … I don’t want to go anywhere. The fanbase knows that.”
Kamara, who has been with the Saints since being drafted in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft, received the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year honors that same season. He signed a contract extension during the previous season, which ensures his presence in New Orleans until at least 2026, with $3 million of his base salary guaranteed for that year. He expressed his desire to remain with the franchise for the entirety of his career, stating, “I want to be a Saint for a long time.”
While Kamara acknowledged he is accustomed to trade speculation, he emphasized that his focus remains on his current performance. “I don’t know what teams I’ve been linked to or who needs a running back, but I’m just focused on what I’m doing,” he said. Currently, he has started all six games this season, accumulating 314 yards and one touchdown on 83 carries.
Another player dealing with trade discussions is Saints wide receiver Chris Olave. He recognized the ongoing rumors, attributing them to the team’s challenging 1-5 record this season. “That’s part of the business,” Olave commented. “There are always rumors, especially when you’re not winning.”
Olave, who has recorded 39 catches for 342 yards and one touchdown this season, stated that he had discussions with team officials regarding the speculation but chose not to share specifics. “I keep that between me and them,” he said.
Kamara is currently recovering from an ankle injury that has affected his practice schedule. Although he missed practice on Wednesday, he returned on Thursday as part of a maintenance program. His commitment to the Saints remains unwavering, even as trade rumors swirl around him and his teammates.
As the Saints navigate a difficult season, both Kamara and Olave remain focused on their roles, determined to turn the team’s fortunes around on the field.
