Arizona Cardinals Evaluate Three Quarterbacks Ahead of Practices

The Arizona Cardinals have recently conducted workouts for three quarterbacks: Kyle Trask, Logan Woodside, and Jeff Driskel. This move comes as the team prepares for their Week 9 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys and indicates a potential shift in their quarterback strategy. While Kyler Murray seems to be recovering and gearing up for a return, the Cardinals may be considering changes to their roster, possibly leading to the release of third-string quarterback Kedon Slovis.

The workouts included not only quarterbacks but also tryouts with four receivers and two tight ends. The receivers featured were Jalen Broons, Brenden Rice, Roc Taylor, and Jalen Virgil, while the tight ends were Oscar Cardenas and Messiah Swinson.

Quarterback Profiles

Kyle Trask, 27 years old and standing at 6 feet 5 inches and 236 pounds, has spent his entire four-year career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Despite not starting any games, he has made seven appearances, completing 4 of 11 passes for a total of 28 yards, after being selected in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

Logan Woodside, a former seventh-round pick, has been in the league since 2018, although he spent the 2019 season with the San Antonio Commanders of the AAF. He has participated in 13 different games, with his most recent appearance occurring in 2023 with the Atlanta Falcons.

Jeff Driskel, at 32 years old and measuring 6 feet 4 inches and 231 pounds, has played for multiple teams since entering the league in 2016. He was on the Cardinals’ practice squad in 2023 before the Cleveland Browns signed him to their active roster.

Currently, Kedon Slovis is the youngest quarterback on the roster at 24 years old. He joined the Cardinals after the final roster cuts this preseason. The outcomes of these tryouts may determine his future with the team.

Cardinals Seek Offensive Improvement

Regardless of whether Murray or Brissett takes the starting role, the Cardinals are in urgent need of enhancing their offensive performance. Head coach Jonathan Gannon emphasized the necessity of scoring more points than their opponents during a recent team meeting. He noted that historically, approximately 70% of games are decided by a single score in the fourth quarter.

Gannon remarked, “We showed them a couple different things, a couple different games, how they can fall out. Every game looks a little bit different, but the details matter.” As the first official practice day approaches, fans and analysts alike will be keen to see if any significant roster changes emerge from the recent evaluations.
