Two brothers from Maine, Jeremy and Scott Durost, achieved remarkable success this past Saturday by each coaching their respective soccer teams to state championships. The brothers, who have a shared passion for the sport, celebrated not only their victories but also the contributions of their daughters, who served as co-captains for their teams.

On November 4, 2023, Jeremy Durost guided the Penobscot Valley Howlers to a 2-0 triumph over Ashland, securing the Class D girls title. This victory marks Jeremy’s third consecutive championship win with the Howlers. Despite facing a season-ending injury, Savannah Durost, Jeremy’s daughter and senior co-captain, played a pivotal role in the team’s success throughout the season.

At the same time, Scott Durost led the Bangor Christian Patriots to victory in the 8-person state championship, defeating Wisdom with a score of 3-0. This was a significant milestone for Scott, as it was his first year as head coach after serving as an assistant. His daughter, Lyndsie Durost, also a senior co-captain, was among the team’s key players. The Patriots concluded their perfect season with an impressive 18-0 record.

Reflecting on the achievements, Jeremy expressed his gratitude for sharing such a special moment with his daughter and brother. “You can’t ask for more of a special moment than to have that win, but also share it with your daughter,” he stated after the game. He also commended Scott and Lyndsie for their accomplishments, emphasizing their deserving nature of the title.

The Durost brothers maintained a supportive relationship throughout the season, frequently checking in with each other and even arranging preseason scrimmages between their teams. “Every single game day, he’s wishing me luck and I’m wishing him luck,” Jeremy noted.

Scott acknowledged the competitive dynamic between them, especially given their recent matchups before Bangor Christian moved to the 8-person division. “I’m a little more competitive than him because he always wins,” he joked, referring to their previous encounters. The rivalry has made their recent triumphs even more rewarding.

With two state titles secured on the same day, the Durost family now boasts a proud legacy of four state championships in a single season. The unity and success of the Durost brothers underscore the strong traditions of family and sport in Maine’s soccer community.
