Justin Herbert Chooses ‘Interstellar’ Over ‘Shutter Island’ in Movie Bracket
Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert recently participated in an “ultimate movie bracket” challenge, where he faced the difficult task of selecting his favorite films. In a surprising twist, Herbert declared Interstellar as his top choice over Shutter Island, a decision he described as more challenging than facing the Pittsburgh Steelers’ defense on the field.
In the opening round of the bracket, Herbert acknowledged the tough matchup, stating, “That’s not really fair… these are probably two of my top movies.” Despite his admiration for Leonardo DiCaprio, Herbert ultimately favored Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar, saying it holds “a special place in my heart.” He did not shy away from praising Shutter Island, calling it “a top five movie for me personally.”
Chargers Dominate Steelers on the Field
While Herbert wrestled with cinematic choices, he demonstrated his prowess against the Steelers on the field on November 5, 2023. The Chargers secured a decisive victory, winning 25–10. Herbert had an impressive performance, throwing for 220 yards and one touchdown. This marked his fourth consecutive game with over 200 passing yards, showcasing his consistent offensive skill.
One of the highlights of the game was a deep 58-yard connection with rookie Ladd McConkey, which set up a critical touchdown drive. Herbert sealed the win with a 15-yard touchdown pass to McConkey, further solidifying his role as a key player in the match. After the game, Herbert credited the team effort, stating, “The defense played incredibly well.”
The Chargers’ defense also shone bright, effectively neutralizing Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers’ offense. The unit recorded three sacks and forced two interceptions, contributing significantly to the victory. With this win, the Chargers improved their record to 7–3, marking their third consecutive triumph.
Herbert’s enthusiasm for classic comedies also emerged during the movie bracket challenge. When faced with the choice between Spaceballs and Happy Gilmore, he quickly selected the latter, citing its memorability and personal significance. “I’ve seen it so many times. Just a great movie,” he remarked.
As Herbert continues to excel on the field, his insights into film reflect a more human side of the athlete, reminding fans that even star quarterbacks face tough choices—both in movies and in high-pressure games.
