Miami Marlins Announce Gabe Kapler as New General Manager

The Miami Marlins have appointed Gabe Kapler as their new general manager, effective Monday. Kapler, who joined the organization as assistant general manager in December 2023, takes on this prominent role following a notable tenure in baseball management.

Kapler previously served as the manager for the San Francisco Giants from 2020 to 2023, where he achieved a record of 295-248. His most commendable season came in 2021 when he led the Giants to a franchise-record 107 wins and secured the National League West title, earning him the Manager of the Year award.

Despite his successes, Kapler’s time with the Giants ended abruptly when he was dismissed just days before the conclusion of the 2023 season, finishing with a record of 78-81. His managerial career began with the Philadelphia Phillies, where he recorded a 161-163 record from 2018 to 2019.

Under the leadership of Marlins president Peter Bendix, Kapler’s focus will be on player development and enhancing the organization’s front-office strategies. His experience in baseball is extensive; he played parts of 12 seasons in Major League Baseball, where he crossed paths with Bendix during his time with the Tampa Bay Rays. Additionally, Kapler held the role of director of player development for the Los Angeles Dodgers from 2015 to 2017.

As the Marlins aim to strengthen their competitive edge in the league, Kapler’s promotion is seen as a strategic move to leverage his experience and insights into player development, ensuring the franchise is well-positioned for future success.
