Oregon State Beavers Fall to Colorado State in Tight Matchup
The Oregon State Beavers suffered their first loss of the season, falling to the Colorado State Rams 64-58 on November 21, 2025. Despite a strong start, the Beavers could not maintain their momentum, struggling with foul trouble that disrupted their game plan.
Oregon State (4-1) initially surged to a 15-4 lead midway through the first quarter. However, the Rams (5-0) quickly regained control, forcing the Beavers into a defensive battle. Head coach Scott Rueck noted, “We just couldn’t find a rhythm after that. I felt like (Colorado State) was in control (with) the way it executed on both ends of the floor.” The Beavers managed to outshoot the Rams in several categories, including a commendable 8-for-17 from three-point range, but were ultimately outscored in the paint, 26-20, and turned the ball over 14 times compared to Colorado State’s five.
The game proved challenging for Oregon State, particularly due to early fouls that left key players sidelined. The starting point guard, Kennedie Shuler, picked up her third foul before halftime, while Néné Sow, a pivotal post player, struggled with two fouls and evident discomfort. In the second half, Tiara Bolden also faced foul issues, collecting all four of her fouls as the Beavers scrambled to adjust.
“I was searching for a Robin to Villa’s Batman,” Rueck remarked, highlighting the need for additional scoring support. Junior guard Jenna Villa stepped up, delivering a career-best 22 points in the loss. Villa matched her personal best with four three-pointers and contributed significantly with seven rebounds and five assists. Despite her efforts, the lack of a consistent second scorer hindered the Beavers’ ability to stage a comeback.
Freshman forward Lara Alonso-Basturo added eight points off the bench, while fellow freshman Katie Field was the only player to finish with a positive plus-minus, contributing four points and a block. The Beavers faced a tough second half, shooting just 29.2% from the field, which prevented them from closing the gap.
Colorado State found success through guard Lexus Bargesser, who led the Rams with 17 points. Additionally, guard Kloe Froebe dominated the rebounding battle with nine boards, providing crucial support in securing the victory.
Oregon State will look to rebound from this loss when they face off against another opponent on November 23, 2025, at Gill Coliseum in Corvallis, Oregon. The game is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN.
