Repair Café events are set to make a comeback in Central Oregon next month, providing residents with an opportunity to restore broken household items. The initiative, hosted by The Environmental Center in Bend since 2013, aims to extend the life of various goods and reduce waste by encouraging repairs instead of replacements.

The next Repair Café will take place at the COCC campus in Redmond on November 13, 2025, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.. Participants can bring a range of items, including clothing, textiles, outdoor gear, electronics, and small appliances. Volunteers will assist attendees in repairing their items or provide DIY instructions for those too large to transport.

At previous events, the repair success rate has reached approximately 65%. This success highlights the effectiveness of community engagement in promoting sustainability and resourcefulness. Families are particularly encouraged to attend, as these events offer children the chance to learn valuable skills in the art of repair.

Participation in the Repair Café is free and open to the public. Interested individuals are advised to RSVP through The Environmental Center’s website at envirocenter.org, where they can navigate to the events tab for more details.

Repair Cafés have gained popularity as a way to address the growing issue of waste in modern society. By providing a platform for community members to fix their belongings, the initiative not only helps save resources but also fosters a sense of togetherness and shared responsibility.

As Central Oregon prepares for this event, it underlines the importance of sustainability and the role that community initiatives play in promoting environmentally friendly practices.
