Tragic Loss: Connors State College Basketball Player Dies After Injury
Ethan Dietz, a sophomore basketball player at Connors State College, passed away on November 28, 2023, following an injury sustained during a game on November 25 in Texas. The 6-foot-8 forward from Vilonia, Arkansas was involved in an incident during the second half of the match that led to a serious head injury, according to statements from the college.
The junior college issued a statement on its official Facebook page confirming Dietz’s death. Shannon Rigsby, a spokesperson for Connors State College, noted that the specific details surrounding the injury are still unclear, but initial reports suggest it was related to a head trauma. The college expressed profound sorrow in their message, saying, “Ethan exemplified what it means to be a Cowboy, to value hard work and being part of a team.”
As the Connors State community mourns, the college has reached out to support Dietz’s family and friends during this difficult time. The statement highlighted the impact Dietz had within the team and the broader college community.
Several basketball games scheduled for the men’s and women’s teams have been canceled in response to this tragedy. Dietz had been contributing significantly to the team’s performance, averaging 11 points over eight games this season.
In a show of solidarity, a vigil is planned for December 1, 2023, on the Connors State College campus in Warner, Oklahoma. This gathering will provide an opportunity for students, faculty, and community members to honor Dietz’s memory and support one another in the face of this loss.
The college continues to provide updates as more information becomes available, and messages of condolence are pouring in from across the region as the community reflects on the life and legacy of Ethan Dietz.
