Arlene Hartman, Beloved Community Figure, Passes Away at 87

UPDATE: Arlene Hartman, a cherished resident of Telford and long-time member of the Sellersville community, has passed away at the age of 87. She died on November 25, 2025, in the Lutheran Community at Telford, leaving behind a legacy of service and love.

Hartman was the devoted wife of the late Glenn Hartman, Sr., with whom she shared an enduring marriage of 65 years until his passing in 2023. Her death marks a significant loss for her family and the many friends who knew her as a vibrant and active member of the community.

Born on July 2, 1938, Arlene was the daughter of the late Arthur and Ella Mae (Myers) Strouse. She attended Sell-Perk High School and had a diverse working life, including roles at the Lutz Pants Factory and Emil’s Diner in Sellersville. Arlene retired in 1997 from her position as a cashier at Clemens Markets.

For over 60 years, Arlene was an active member of St. Michael’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sellersville, where she contributed as a choir member, volunteered for the Altar Guild, and served as president of the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (WELCA) for 25 years.

Arlene’s passions extended beyond her community involvement. She was an avid gardener, a lover of cats, and enjoyed antiquing and traveling. Her diverse interests included collecting stamps and first-day covers, square dancing, and scrapbooking, showcasing her vibrant personality and zest for life.

Arlene is survived by her daughter, Barbara A. Nemecek, and her husband, James, as well as a sister, Margie Derstine, several nieces and nephews, and countless friends who will miss her dearly.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Glenn Hartman, Jr., who passed away in 1996.

A viewing will be held on December 5, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 10:55 a.m. at St. Michael’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, located at 25 E. Church St., Sellersville, PA 18960. The funeral service is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m., with a livestream available for those unable to attend in person. Interment will follow at the nearby Sellersville Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Arlene’s name can be made to St. Michael’s Lutheran Church at the above address, ensuring her spirit of service continues to thrive in the community she loved.
