URGENT UPDATE: A shocking series of shootings unfolded in Chicago’s Loop on Friday night, leaving seven teenagers, aged 13 to 17, injured and one man dead. The incidents occurred just before 10 p.m., near the iconic Chicago Theater and moments away from ABC7’s State Street studios, where the sound of gunfire echoed through the streets.

Witnesses described a chaotic scene as a large group of people gathered on the sidewalk when shots rang out, prompting bystanders to seek cover. Thankfully, police report that most of the victims are in good condition and are expected to recover.

About an hour later, authorities responded to another shooting at Dearborn and Monroe, where two individuals were shot. Tragically, one male victim succumbed to his injuries at Northwestern Hospital. His identity and age remain unknown, while the second victim, an 18-year-old man, is in serious condition after being shot in the leg.

As of now, Chicago police have not confirmed if the two shootings are connected, and no one is in custody for either incident. Alderman Brian Hopkins of the 2nd Ward took to social media late Friday, stating, “300 juveniles rioting in the Loop now, at least 5 victims shot, one critical with life-threatening gunshot wound to torso. Multiple police officers attacked and injured with mace and stun guns, at least one PO hospitalized.”

This rampant violence raises urgent concerns for community safety as law enforcement continues to investigate. The presence of large groups of juveniles in the area has drawn attention and sparked discussions about public safety and violence prevention.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incidents to come forward. The situation is still developing, and updates are expected as police continue their investigation. Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.
