Doncic Dominates with 43 Points, Downplays Groin Concern
UPDATE: Luka Doncic delivered an explosive performance, scoring 43 points in a thrilling but ultimately disappointing 119-109 loss to the Golden State Warriors on October 24, 2023. However, the star guard downplayed a potential groin issue that arose during the game, emphasizing he feels it is “probably nothing.”
Doncic, who played a staggering 41 minutes, spent significant time in the training room post-game, receiving treatment for discomfort in his right leg. “Just felt it a little bit because my hip went [the opposite] way,” Doncic stated during a postgame press conference nearly an hour and a half after the final buzzer. “But overall, it’s probably nothing.”
Despite the concern, Doncic’s performance was remarkable. He recorded 12 rebounds and 9 assists, showcasing improved mobility on defense with two steals compared to his previous season with the Lakers. “I think I’m getting better on the defensive end,” he said, highlighting his focus on communication with teammates.
The Lakers’ struggles were evident, particularly in the third quarter, where they were outscored 35-25, allowing the Warriors to pull ahead. Lakers coach JJ Redick acknowledged the ongoing issue, stating, “The trend I see is that we continue to be a terrible third-quarter team.”
Doncic’s offseason dedication to fitness is paying off. He shot an impressive 13-for-14 in the paint and 15-for-17 on two-point shots, according to ESPN Research. However, three turnovers contributed to the Lakers’ overall total of 20 turnovers, which the Warriors capitalized on for 22 points. The team also struggled from beyond the arc, hitting only 8-for-32 from three-point range.
Looking ahead, the Lakers have a crucial two days for practice and recovery before facing the Minnesota Timberwolves at home on Friday. The outcome of Doncic’s treatment remains to be seen, but his commitment to improving his game is clear as the season progresses.
Stay tuned for more updates following this developing story as the Lakers aim to bounce back from their opening night loss.
