The California Highway Patrol (CHP) confirmed the arrest took place shortly after the collision, which occurred around 7:15 PM on the northbound transition ramp from Highway 87 to Interstate 280.

Witnesses report that the driver, a 57-year-old resident of San Jose, lost control of his Hyundai and collided with a man in his 40s who was standing on the right shoulder. Emergency responders pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene, marking a devastating loss for the local community.
