Emeryville Man Sentenced to 6 Years for Pimping Model Recruit
UPDATE: A man from Emeryville has been sentenced to six years in state prison for exploiting a woman he lured with false promises of a modeling job. Christopher Lee Card, aged 40, was sentenced following a no contest plea to charges of pimping, as confirmed by court records.
The troubling case dates back to 2021, when Card was arrested after the victim reported being held against her will at a hotel in Union City. She disclosed to authorities that Card had promised her a modeling opportunity, leading her to travel from out of state. Once she arrived, however, he forced her into prostitution, demanding that she have sex with as many strangers as possible in a single day.
While Card was sentenced on this charge, serious human trafficking allegations were dropped as part of a plea deal. In a surprising twist, Card’s legal troubles escalated during the trial process. While awaiting trial, he faced additional charges for allegedly assaulting his grandmother’s 71-year-old caretaker, though those charges were ultimately dismissed.
Complications arose in 2023 when Card was deemed mentally incompetent for trial, delaying proceedings significantly. His sentencing took place in October 2023, but he received approximately four years of credit for time served and good behavior while his case was pending.
Authorities emphasize the importance of this case as part of ongoing efforts to combat human trafficking and exploitation. The victim’s bravery in coming forward serves as a crucial reminder of the dangers posed by such predators.
This case underscores the urgent need for vigilance against human trafficking in communities everywhere. As investigations continue, law enforcement agencies are urging individuals to remain aware of potential exploitation tactics and to report any suspicious activity.
