Fans Shocked as NFL Star Roger Craig Not Inducted in Hall of Fame
UPDATE: Fans were left reeling during the San Francisco 49ers vs. Carolina Panthers game at Levi’s Stadium on Sunday as they learned that Roger Craig, a three-time Super Bowl champion, is not in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The 65-year-old legend, who was the guest of honor at the game, was celebrated but also highlighted the glaring absence of his induction.
Craig, a former running back for the 49ers, made history as the first player to achieve over 1,000 rushing and 1,000 receiving yards in a single season. His remarkable career began when he was drafted as the 49th overall pick in 1983. He played eight seasons with the 49ers, winning all three of his championship rings with the franchise.
During the game, Craig was seen catching up with current star Christian McCaffrey. The Niners secured a 20-9 victory over the Panthers, but it was Craig’s Hall of Fame status that dominated conversations. Fans took to social media in disbelief. One user on X stated, “He belongs in the HOF. You cannot speak about how versatile the RB position became without talking about Roger Craig.” Another chimed in, “Wait…what??? Roger Craig is not in the Hall. This is BS.”
ESPN announcers Joe Buck and Troy Aikman addressed Craig’s omission live on air, urging for his induction. Aikman noted, “If you talked to Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, and many of the others, they would tell you that he’s certainly deserving. Hopefully, it happens for him.” Buck added, “For people of a certain age, he set the standard.”
Craig is one of the semi-finalists for the 2026 Hall of Fame intake, and fans are hopeful that this recognition will finally come to fruition.
Meanwhile, on the field, McCaffrey shined against his former team, rushing for 89 yards and a touchdown while also catching 7 passes for 53 yards. His performance helped the 49ers improve to 8-4 for the season.
As discussions about Craig’s Hall of Fame candidacy continue, fans are left questioning how such an influential player could still be overlooked. The conversation surrounding his legacy is expected to gain momentum as the 2026 induction approaches.
This urgent development not only reflects on Craig’s individual achievements but also raises broader questions about the criteria for Hall of Fame induction, making it a hot topic among fans and analysts alike.
