MLB Announces Spring Training Starts Feb. 20 with Key Matchups
URGENT UPDATE: Major League Baseball (MLB) has just announced that the 2024 spring training will kick off on February 20 with seven exciting games. Fans can look forward to the New York Yankees facing off against the Baltimore Orioles in Sarasota, Florida, while the Chicago Cubs will take on the Chicago White Sox at Mesa, Arizona.
This highly anticipated schedule, revealed earlier today, marks the official start of the baseball season, and excitement is palpable among fans nationwide. The opening day will also feature matches between the Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies, San Diego Padres against the Seattle Mariners, and the Kansas City Royals clashing with the Texas Rangers.
In a unique twist, the Boston Red Sox will compete against Northeastern University, and the Minnesota Twins will battle the University of Minnesota, further showcasing the blend of professional and collegiate talent this spring.
On February 21, the reigning World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers will start their spring season by facing the Los Angeles Angels in Tempe, Arizona. The games will ramp up with 14 matchups on March 3 and 4, as MLB teams engage in thrilling contests against national teams preparing for the World Baseball Classic. Notably, the United States will take on the San Francisco Giants on March 3, followed by a matchup against the Rockies the next day.
As part of this season’s innovations, the Spring Breakout series will showcase top prospects from March 19-22. Meanwhile, Las Vegas is poised to become a key location for the Oakland Athletics, who will play exhibition games on March 7 and 8 before their anticipated move to the city in 2028.
In preparation for the official MLB opener at San Francisco on March 25, the Yankees will engage in exhibition games against the Cubs on March 23 and 24. These games coincide with the Detroit Tigers visiting the Cubs as they gear up for their own opening game on March 26 in San Diego.
Fans should also mark their calendars for exhibition games occurring at regular-season ballparks from March 22-24, including the much-anticipated Freeway Series between the Dodgers and Angels, a two-game series between the Orioles and Nationals, along with matchups featuring the Royals at Texas, Cleveland at Arizona, and Cincinnati at Milwaukee.
