Retail Giants TJ Maxx, Marshalls, Burlington to Open 2,110 Stores
URGENT UPDATE: Off-price retail powerhouses TJ Maxx, Marshalls, and Burlington have just confirmed ambitious plans to open a staggering 2,110 new stores in 2026. This significant expansion is set to boost local economies and create thousands of jobs across various states.
The company behind these brands, The TJX Companies, aims for a robust total of 7,000 locations globally, adding to the existing 5,000 stores already in operation. Executives revealed that this expansion not only exceeds previous projections of 1,300 new locations but also reflects a strategic commitment to value and variety in retail offerings.
As of late October and early November, construction has begun on at least six new TJX stores across states including Kansas, Ohio, Mississippi, New York, and Washington. While details on how these new stores will be distributed among the different brands remain unclear, the retail landscape is poised for a major transformation.
Burlington is particularly focused on growth, planning to open a minimum of 110 new stores next year. This initiative is bolstered by the recent acquisition of 45 former Joann leases. Joann, which recently shuttered all U.S. locations after filing for bankruptcy, has opened opportunities for Burlington. CFO Kristin Wolfe stated, “This is a modest step up from our original plan of 100 net new stores,” indicating a strong confidence in sustaining growth.
Burlington’s retail pipeline is described as “robust,” and while Wolfe noted it is too early to discuss 2027 plans, she expressed optimism about long-term opportunities. By the end of 2025, Burlington expects to have opened an additional 104 stores. In the third quarter of this year alone, the company launched 73 locations, despite closing 18 stores in November.
The retail expansion comes at a time when consumers are increasingly seeking value in their shopping experiences. The new stores will not only provide a wider selection of discounted merchandise but also contribute to job creation in communities nationwide, making this announcement particularly impactful for local economies.
As the retail landscape continues to evolve, all eyes will be on the upcoming openings and how these brands will leverage their growth strategies. Consumers can expect exciting developments in the coming months as these retailers work to fulfill their ambitious goals.
Stay tuned for further updates as more details emerge regarding the specific locations and timelines for these new store openings.
