Sigourney Weaver Questions Oscar’s Fate in New Ghostbusters Update
UPDATE: Sigourney Weaver has sparked curiosity about the fate of Oscar, her character Dana Barrett’s son from the Ghostbusters franchise. Despite three films released since the original Ghostbusters 2 in 1989, the mystery surrounding Oscar remains unsolved.
During a recent interview, Weaver expressed her intrigue about Oscar while promoting her upcoming role in Avatar: Fire and Ash, set to hit theaters on December 19, 2024. As fans eagerly await the latest installment of the Avatar series, the question of what happened to Oscar has resurfaced, capturing the attention of Ghostbusters enthusiasts.
Weaver, who has reprised her role in the franchise’s latest film, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, shared her thoughts with io9 on whether there has been any discussion regarding Oscar’s storyline. “You know, when we made those films in the ’80s, sequels still were not cool,” she noted. “And so we took a big chance making two. And then I thought that what Jason [Reitman] did with this new line, I’m sure he has thought about that. And it wouldn’t surprise me if that happened. That would be fun.”
Her lighthearted suggestion that the twins who portrayed Oscar could return adds a unique twist to the conversation. “Maybe both the twins who played [the character] could be in it,” she joked. “One was very happy on the set, and the other one didn’t like it.”
While Weaver’s character briefly appeared in the end credits of Ghostbusters: Afterlife, revealing her continued friendship with Peter Venkman (played by Bill Murray), fans still await clarity on Oscar’s origins and his father’s identity. This lingering mystery adds an emotional layer to the franchise, as audiences are left wondering about the connections between characters.
In addition to the ongoing discussions about Oscar, the Ghostbusters franchise is expanding with an animated feature in development and a Netflix animated series on the horizon. However, updates on these projects have been sparse, leaving many fans eager for news.
As Weaver prepares for her role in Avatar: Fire and Ash, this latest revelation about Oscar is sure to reignite interest in the Ghostbusters saga. The combination of nostalgia and potential new storylines could lead to an exciting future for the franchise.
Fans are left asking: Will Oscar finally get the spotlight he deserves? As details emerge surrounding both Avatar and Ghostbusters, audiences will be watching closely for updates on these beloved characters.
