Thunder Surge with Historic 33-4 Run to Beat Jazz 144-112
UPDATE: In a stunning display of resilience, the Oklahoma City Thunder overturned an 18-point deficit to defeat the Utah Jazz 144-112 on November 10, 2023, continuing their impressive 8-game winning streak in NBA Cup play. The Thunder, now boasting an outstanding record of 16-1, executed a remarkable 33-4 run that shocked the Jazz and solidified their dominance.
The Thunder’s comeback was historic, marking the largest victory by any team that trailed by 15 or more points since the play-by-play era began in 1997-98. This performance underscores their prowess, especially as they improved to a perfect 5-0 when facing double-digit deficits this season, the only team without a loss in such scenarios.
Leading the charge was Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who scored 31 points with a stellar shooting performance—hitting all three of his 3-point attempts and finishing with 10-of-12 from the free-throw line. His scoring feat marks 14 games with over 30 points in the first 17 games of the season, the most since Michael Jordan in 1986-87.
The Thunder initially struggled against the Jazz, trailing by as many as 18 points in the first half. However, they closed the gap to 68-67 by halftime despite facing a technical foul on coach Mark Daigneault just before the buzzer.
What followed was a third quarter for the ages, as Oklahoma City outscored Utah 43-20, fueled by their relentless defense that forced 28 turnovers. The Thunder’s pressure defense led to nine turnovers in the third quarter alone, allowing them to shoot an impressive 9-for-13 from beyond the arc.
The Jazz, who had initially set the pace with a blistering 44 points in the first quarter, struggled to maintain their momentum. Despite strong performances from Keyonte George with 20 points and Lauri Markkanen with 19 points, they fell to 5-10 overall and 0-3 in tournament play.
As the Thunder celebrates this remarkable win, fans are left anticipating what’s next for this extraordinary team. With a perfect record in comeback situations, the Thunder are proving to be a formidable force in the league. Expect more thrilling games as they continue their pursuit of excellence in the NBA Cup.
Stay tuned for updates on the Thunder’s next matchup and further developments in the NBA!
